HFpEF
General Meeting Information
This session will discuss differences in guidelines for the identification of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The session will then discuss the determinants of exercise intolerance in HFpEF, with a focus on central (i.e., cardiac) vs peripheral (i.e., skeletal muscle) limitations. Basic science mechanisms associated with HFpEF will be discussed in addition to the non-pharmacologic interventions (i.e., diet, physical activity and exercise) to improve exercise capacity and quality of life in HFpEF.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:
1. Recognize the risk factors for HFpEF.
2. Describe the basic biological mechanisms that contribute to HFpEF.
3. Discuss the chronotropic response and exercise capacity in the setting of HFpEF
4. Review the guidelines associated with HFpEF.
