Overview

HFSA 23rd Annual Scientific Meeting

SESSION 50 - Ten Simple Tips: Managing Patients Across the Spectrum of Pulmonary Hypertension

Sep 16, 2019 3:35pm - Sep 16, 2019 5:00pm

Session Description
The recognition and management of pulmonary hypertension (PH) has evolved over the recent years and has become an increasingly common scenario posed to heart failure clinicians. Yet despite this, given the multitude of scenarios in which PH can present, ambiguity exists in terms of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This is a case-based session in which diagnostic and therapeutic approaches will be discussed.  The session will be comprised of 4 case-based units, with the case presented by a Junior Faculty followed by discussion from a Senior Faculty.
Learning Objectives

As a result of this educational session, the learner will be able to:

  1. Identify and diagnose PH and recognize features that help to distinguish pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). from left-heart disease associated pulmonary hypertension.
  2. Discuss the role of PH, challenges and mitigating strategies, in the context of the failing ACHD patient in considering heart transplant or mechanical support.
  3. Discuss the approach to assessment and management of severe mitral valve disease complicated by severe pulmonary vascular disease.
  4. Discuss the impact of sleep apnea on pulmonary hypertension, strategies for treatment and management.
