Session Description

With increasing heart failure cases, prevention of heart failure is the most powerful approach to combat the heart failure epidemic.  This joint session with the American Heart Association has been designed to provide reviews and deep dives into the practice-changing science promoting new approaches in heart failure prevention and its implementation.  Key topics such as novel biomarker approaches, lifestyle modifications and exercise prescriptions, risk factors modification, and guideline-directed medical therapy implementation and coordination with primary care physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare providers for at-risk patients.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this educational session, the learner will be able to:


  1. Update on evidence supporting natriuretic peptides, Hs-Trop, and ST2 for early detection and how clinicians can best utilize new biomarker strategies in the outpatient setting.
  2. Discuss practical approaches to reducing risk of heart failure by modifying diet, exercise, and optimizing cardiac rehab will be discussed.
  3. Highlight importance of optimizing GDMT therapy for patients with hypertension, CAD, and diabetes is critical to reduce the progression of heart failure. 
  4. Discuss importance of primary care physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare providers play an important role in management of patients who are at risk for heart failure
